HRKC Race 2 Recap – New Winners, Hard Lessons & Wheel-to-Wheel Action

May 4th brought another action-packed round of karting to the Hamilton Regional Kart Club (HRKC), showcasing everything we love about club racing — tight competition, hard-fought battles, and great sportsmanship from top to bottom.

The day kicked off with the usual driver’s meeting, but with 39 Briggs Senior drivers registered the class split into Top and Bottom Splits, the morning warmup would determine which group each driver would end up in for qualifying — with drafting so critical, everyone wanted in the Top Split.

Some came prepared, arriving at the meeting already suited up with karts on grid, ready to roll. Others sprinted away post-briefing trying to scramble into their karts in time. A few didn’t make it out at all, missing their shot to set a time — a tough early-season reminder that being prepared is half the battle. Register online, complete tech sheets ahead of time, and always give yourself time to be ready.

New Winners Across the Board — Almost

In the finals , we saw new winners in nearly every class, except for our Junior categories where some early-season dominance is already forming:

Briggs Cadet

With last weeks winner, Yousef Adi away racing at USPKS in Charlotte, the door was open — and Nathan Stockwell stepped up. He swept the day: pole, Pre-Final, and Final, all by large margins. This kid has serious pace. We hope to see him at the upcoming KartStars and Inter-Club events to test himself against the best in Ontario.

Podium:
🥇 Nathan Stockwell
🥈 Lincoln Lima
🥉 Blaine Donovan

Briggs Jr Lite

A smaller field this week with just four racers, but Cody Shaw made it count — another sweep, making it two-for-two this season.

Podium:
🥇 Cody Shaw
🥈 Oliver Gonsalves (first HRKC podium!)
🥉 Madison Amaral

Briggs Jr

Luckily, the Briggs Jr. race was much less dramatic this week, it was clean and competitive racing. Jackson Morley was the class of the field — pole, Pre-Final, and Final — though Maxwell Willetts made sure it wasn’t easy applying pressure the entire time. Willetts briefly passed Morley in Turn 4 late in the final, but didn’t defend Turn 9, and Morley took the lead back.

Behind them: A tight trio of Cole Campin, Sebastian Mazza, and Brandon Bowden battled hard. Bowden crossed 3rd but a penalty pushed him down the order.

Podium:
🥇 Jackson Morley
🥈 Maxwell Willetts
🥉 Cole Campin

Briggs Sr.

With so many entries, a B Final was necessary. Top 6 moved into the A Final:
✅ Samuel Gow (B Final Winner), Jackson Maytum, Nathan Wilkie, Noah Neil, Cooper Petrik, Jaxon White

In the 18-lap A Final, it was all about strategy. Alex Murphy started P5, picked his moments, and by lap 15 had taken the lead — holding it to the finish.
Podium:
🥇 Alex Murphy
🥈 Mitchell Morrow
🥉 Owen McCarty

Pole-sitter Raul Canuto led most of the race before a lap 14 collision ended his day. A DNF, but expect him back up front soon.

Briggs Masters

Another tight race among HRKC’s most experienced racers this time Patrick getting the better of Yanko. The masters class could be a nice battle all season with close competition against skilled drivers.

Podium:
🥇 Patrick Lelievre
🥈 Eli Yanko (last week’s winner)
🥉 Christopher Mitchell

Rotax Mini Max

No Lorussos. No Adi. The field was wide open.
Nathan Stockwell grabbed pole, but Lincoln Lima took charge, winning the Pre-Final and Final — though Carlo Lot finished just 0.342 seconds behind in an exciting finish.

Podium:
🥇 Lincoln Lima
🥈 Carlo Lot
🥉 Nathan Stockwell

Props to Mason McInnes, Tyler De Bel Belluz, Caiin Chatterson, and Damian Stirling for continuing to improve every session. Great work, kids!

Rotax Jr

Stefano Lanzalotta, new to the class, came out flying — grabbing pole ahead of Ari Theodoropoulos and Morley. But the Pre-Final was chaos:
On the formation lap, a cold track and cold tires caused Lanzillotta to spin in Turn 3. Ari, following close, had nowhere to go — collision. Both DNFs before the green flag.

Ava Cabral ended up winning the Pre-Final (later penalized for pushback), giving Morley pole for the Final.
In the Final, Ari came charging from the back to take a dominant win.

Podium:
🥇 Ari Theodoropoulos
🥈 Ava Cabral
🥉 Stefano Lanzillotta

Rotax Sr

The most powerful class brought the biggest scare. As rain began to fall, Noah Modestino had a heavy crash that brought out the red flag and required ambulance attention. Thankfully, Noah is okay — but the kart was not so lucky.

After a 15-minute delay, the field restarted on slicks as the rain stopped.

Michael Nickel, spent most of the race on a charge, at the end of lap 1 he was in p10 over 7 seconds off the lead. The rain stoppage helped and he was able to pick off drivers and finish up P2. William Adams had a great drive to take the win.
Podium:
🥇 William Adams
🥈 Michael Nickel
🥉 Jaden Hundal

Also worth noting: Nigel Longley earned his first-ever Rotax Sr pole. A podium seems just around the corner.
